We are extremely pleased to have been part of the Francophone Song competition over the past month, organized by the French Institute in Serbia.
Our associate, Marijana Dujović, took part as a jury member in the semifinal in Belgrade, and then in the final held in Niš.
This year, several dozen young amateur musicians, all lovers of French song, applied to take part in the competition, which was divided into two categories: juniors, up to 18 years of age, and seniors, adult candidates.
The strong interest in French popular music in our community is also reflected in the scale of the competition’s organization. The semifinal, namely, was held in as many as three cities: Belgrade, Novi Sad, and Niš.
The candidates performed a wide variety of French music hits from different eras, ranging from the well-known chansons of Édith Piaf and Charles Aznavour, through somewhat less frequently performed songs, including numbers by Céline Dion, to contemporary works, among which the most frequently performed was “Mon amour”, the song with which Slimane represented France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
The winners of this year’s competition are:
in the junior category, Teodora Kolarević, who performed “Cœur” by Zoé Clauzure,
in the senior category, Maja Pavlović, who performed “Avec le temps” by Léo Ferré, in the version by Hiba Tawaji.
